LONDON AMATEUR BASKETBALL LEAGUE

SEASON 2008/09

CUP TOURNAMENT

Greenwich Grizzlies 43

Red Dragons 35

Our Cup Tournament took place at the Central Foundation Girl´s School, Harley Grove, Bow, London E3 2AT on the 30th January.  Greenwich Grizzlies won the second Cup Tournament, having lost last year final to Elephant & Castle.  This was the first silverware that this team wins in any official competition.  We wish Greenwich Grizzlies a season full of victories.

Greenwich Grizzlies has founded a basketball academy in South London.  They have developed their pool of players and have gathered some valuable experience in this league and in other local leagues and tournaments in the London area.

On the other hand, Red Dragons have been the runner-ups.  Last season they lost the league final to Kilburn Tigers.  They have a weekly practice in a local school in Tower Hamlets where they play each Thursday.  Red Dragons will be a serious contender for the upcoming league tournament.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT AT CENTRAL FOUNDATION GIRL'S SCHOOL

We will play our league tournament at the same venue after the Cup Tournament.

Format:    The league will play in a division of 8 or 10 teams, (or two divisions of 8 teams), playing each other twice.  All teams will play each other once.  The league should start in January (23rd or 30th).  The league will be played on Saturdays, 11am to 4pm.  There is the possibility of playing both Saturday and Sundays, even weekdays, depending on the school offer.

Officiating costs:  Referees will be paid £18 per match, table officials £10 per match.  The league will invest in the development of its officials, working in partnership with London Basketball, England Basketball, London Association of Basketball Officials, Officials Sport London, etc.

League fees:  We have estimated a cost of £500 for each team, for a division of 8/10 teams.  The cost may be lower for a division two.   Each team will have to send and fund one member to attend a table officiating course and perhaps a referees' course.  They may be asked to officiate a mininum of matches.  Teams will be given credit for those team members who officiate in our league.

Rules and conditions apply.  Please check our handbook before applying.  If you are interested in applying, please contact us on amateurbasketball@yahoo.co.uk
